Amy, from Iowa

To make money, I set up little stands out at the corner of our street. I sell lemonade, but that's not really the focus of my stand. My brother and I paint frames and vases, and I make earrings. The money-making part is only the second best part of it. Making the items to sell...that's the best! I plan to start selling my stories there soon. Wish me luck!

When I grow up, I want to be somebody known in the arts. I want to create music, write stories, and be a super awesome artist. DREAM ON!

Hannah, from Washington

I tried selling lemonade and cut flowers, but they didn't sell very well. Then, I changed to popsicles and am selling them every sunny day! We live by a park and a school, and a lot of people walk by. My brother is beginning baseball this season, so I am selling coffee, pop, candy, and breakfast cookies out of the back of our truck whenever my brother plays baseball. I think I'll make a ton of money!.

When I grow up, I want to be in charge.

Eve, from Connecticut

I make money by weeding my neighbor's lawn, scrubbing the deck, and washing the driveway while she's away on vacation for two weeks every summer. It's easy and it pays. Look for a neighbor that is away sometimes or elderly people who need help. People enjoy it, so sometimes if you work hard enough, you might get an extra tip. Have fun and try it out.

When I grow up, I want to be a cook, a writer, or a vet. I'm pointing towards a writer.

Hannah, from Indiana

One way I make money is washing cars. I wash all my neighbors' cars. I earn about $5 to $10. If I wax the car, they pay me about $13. I also shovel snow and rake leaves for everyone. I earn about $110 every year, including my birthday money.

When I grow up, I want to be a doctor because I think I could do it.

My business started during the summer by thinking of cute jewelry designs. I saved up my birthday money and then I went to the crafts store and bought $75 worth of jewelry supplies, like string, beads, etc. I sell the jewelry just by telling people that I make it.

I sell Kool-Aid and cookies and I save up all my money with my friend. We have a club and we are saving up money for supplies. I make the Kool-Aid and she makes the cookies, so I think we divide up the work evenly.

Abbie, age 9, from North Carolina

I run a lemonade stand with my best friend, Emma. We donate the money to charity—like First Book–Charlotte or Ronald McDonald house. Sometimes I catch lizards for entertainment at the stand. We also sell our art and cards. Once I sold cupcakes, but I may have eaten a couple of them!

When I grow up, I want to be the next Jane Goodall or Rachel Carson.

Kate, age 11, from Massachusetts

I make belts. I buy the patterned ribbons and metal belt buckles from a fabric store. The way I make them is I sew the two ribbons together so that the belt is reversible. I do that on a sewing machine. Then I hand-sew the buckle on. It costs me about $3.50 to buy the materials for a belt, and it takes me almost an hour to sew one. I sell each belt for $15 at a consignment shop in my town and I get to keep $10. That means I make $6.50 for each belt I make. So far this year, I've earned almost $150! It's so cool when I see someone around town wearing one of the belts I made! Someday, I want to be a fashion designer and make all kinds of clothes.
