Cassie, from Texas

It was a Friday and my best friend was having a party. I went with another friend to the party, and when I got to the house, my best friend started yelling at me, so I went home crying.

I really don't know what I could have done to stop the fight.

Amy, from Iowa

My friend and I were goofing around, walking into Orchestra. She said something that was jokingly mean to me, so I pretended to get mad and nudged her with my instrument case. OOPS! She fell flat on her face. "Are you OK?" was all I could say, but inside I was thinking, "I'm going to lose my best friend!" I seriously wanted to cry. She picked herself up, walked away, and ignored me for almost a week. I was crushed. Finally, the next week, we talked. Luckily, she knew how to forgive and forget, which is really important in a friend. Then I was happy.

To stop the fight, I should have apologized right away. I was afraid that if I said I was sorry over and over, she'd think I was too clingy to be her friend. In the end, it worked out. I even think it brought us closer. Next time, if you're in a situation like this, just apologize!

Avery, from Georgia

My friend got mad at me because I didn't tell her something. We got in a HUGE fight. I didn't want to talk to her because I thought it would just make the problem worse. Then, she started to ask my best friend (right in front of me), "Do you want to be MY best friend and have a lemonade stand tomorrow at MY house?" That really hurt my feelings, so I could REALLY relate to Jessie in The Lemonade War.

To stop the fight, I could have just said something to her, instead of ignoring her.

Noel, from Arizona

My friend was jealous because I was hanging out with another friend of ours. So she called up that other friend and told her that I had said she was stupid. Then my friend called me on the phone, and I then I called her on the phone, and we kept calling each other until it was time for bed. That's when my friend admitted to what she'd done. I said it was okay and that people make mistakes. The next day, all three of us were hanging out together.

To prevent the fight, we could have all gotten together and taken a lie-detector test. :)

Tyler, from Florida

I had a fight once with my best friend. It all started when I was not paying attention to her. She got mad, and her face got all red. On the bus, she gave me the cold shoulder and started to sit with someone else. She did this for a week until one day, on the bus home, she apologized to me and I apologized to her.

Now that I look back at it, I could have solved the problem just by trying to talk to her. And always sit next to her on the bus—that is, if no one is sitting there already. Anyway, that's what I would do.

Samantha, from New Jersey

My best friend and I were playing a game at her house. It was a game that had just one player, and my friend didn't let me have a turn. I got mad and then she got mad. We both started to scream at each other. Then her mom came downstairs, and my friend started to tell her all kinds of secrets I had told her. So then I started to tell her mom all the secrets my friend had told me. We stayed mad at each other for 18 weeks. Then one day, my friend came up to me and said she was sorry. We made up after that.

I could have just asked her nicely to let me play for awhile, or I could have gone to her mom before the fighting started. That way, no one would be mad at each other and all our secrets would have stayed secrets.

Elise, from Florida

I was packing for a trip my family was going to take and I needed to get back a dress that a friend had borrowed. She and I weren't such good friends anymore because of a mean message she had left me before. I called her up and told her I needed the dress. She said some more mean things to me, and I blew up. I told her how I really felt about her. The next day, all of the bats that were in my chest were gone.

I don't know if I could have stopped the fight. I felt like I had to tell her how I felt. She made me so angry. I just had to let all of my feelings come out.

Katie, from Virginia

I was playing with some other friends, and my best friend got mad at me for that. She started stomping across the playground and yelling. She wouldn't let me apologize. The next day, shw was still mad at me, so I decided to leave her alone. The next day, she still wouldn't let me apologize. Finally, at the end of the day, she said sorry and I said sorry and we were fine. Our fight lasted for three days!

Next time, I could have talked to her and played with her.

Carly, from New York

My brother and I were raking leaves, and my dad was going somewhere in the car with my other brother. My brother wanted to go too, but he wasn't allowed, so he spit on the window of the car! He blamed it on me, and my dad got mad, and now I'm in trouble because of it. So my brother and I are in a fight.

Next time, I could speak up.

Alice, from Texas

I was painting my nails when my sister walked in the room and said she wanted to paint her nails, too. I told her no, but she just grabbed the bottle out of my hand and spilled it everywhere! I was so mad, because I was the one who had to clean up the mess.

Courtney, from Florida
My little sister, Brianna, and I were doing a car wash to make some money. I was washing my neighbor's car. I was almost done, and I was on the best part: the hose. Brianna was washing my other neighbor's car, and she wasn't looking. I was about to squirt her with the hose when she turned around and grabbed the hose from me. She washed both cars at once so she got all the money for washing two cars! To stop the fight, I could have grabbed the hose right out of her hand and told my parents.

Lola, from Massachusetts
My sister and I got into a fight. Here's what happened: My mom said she would give five dollars to whoever found the remote control. I found it, but my sister pulled me out of the way and said she found it! We fought for about two weeks over that.

Rhiannon, from Texas
Me and Richelle, my twin, got in a fight because she took my iPod and she kept saying she didn't. But I knew she took it because I went to the bathroom and when I came back, it wasn't there! The fight lasted for days. It wouldn't stop! Next time, me and her could just help each other and look around, instead of fighting.

Isabelle, from Texas

My brother are I are twins, and people say twins are supposed to get along. It's really not true! Not long ago, I got mad at him and threw his Nintendo DS on the floor. The fight lasted for days and days! Next time, I'm going to try not to take my anger out on his property.

Steven, age 10, from Minnesota

I broke my brother's cell phone. I wasn't supposed to touch it, but I took it out of his room, and then I dropped it in the street and it got wet. He was SO MAD. He said he was going to kill me. But my mom didn't let him. I shouldn't have taken his phone. But I just really wanted to look at it, and I figured, what's the big deal? Next time, I won't take his phone.
