Hildy Lane's Homemade Lemonade

Ingredients

5 cups water
1 cup sugar
4-6 lemons (to yield 1 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice)
ice cubes
lemon wheels (sliced lemon) for garnish

(Make sure a grownup helps you with cutting the lemons and heating the water.)

Directions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and the sugar.
  2. Heat the sugar-water mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until all of the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat.
  3. Meanwhile, squeeze the juice from the lemons.
  4. Pour the lemon juice and the sugar-water mixture into a pitcher. Stir vigorously.
  5. Add 4 cups of cold water. Stir to mix well.
  6. Refrigerate for one hour.
  7. Serve in a glass over ice. For an added touch, garnish the glass with a lemon wheel.
